Photo kaliedoscope

In this piece I was playing off of the repetitions in the original photo. I wanted to make the repetitions the subject, not the objects themselves. I was also thinking about kaliedoscopes and the types of images they make. This piece is the result of those thought processes.

Beginnings

 While thinking this summer I was noticing all the patterns and repititions that I was surrounded by at work. I took some quick photos on my phone to capture them and allow me to play with them further. These are some of the patterns I captured

Questions

After spending the summer thinking about my art and asking all sorts of questions, I finally reached a conclusion. My questions ranged from: do I continue working with the same materials? Do I continue with the same patterns/inspirations? Why or why not? What do I really want to create? Why? What is the significance or meaning to what I want to do? As well as I was reminded of the advice I heard that it is not the most talented artists that suceed, it is the ones that keep creating art, even if its not great. I finally came to a place of deciding that I didn't care if I knew all the answers to my questions, but I was going to do something. Slowly I have begun creating again. Some pieces have simply been temporary arrangements that have allowed me to play, and this is where it begins.

And a close up of the shadows that were created by the light. It was an interactive piece, the one side open so that people could walk inside and be completely surrounded by pattern. It was a neat experience to be inside looking through the piece.
